We are not there yet: genetic selection for poor semen motility in bull

March 12, 2018

A study in Animal Reproduction Science aimed to screen the whole bull genome to identify markers and candidate genes underlying poor sperm motility.

Out of 1581 Polish Holstein-Friesian bull population they selected 41 bulls for the study and 279 controls.

Investigators found a complex genetics behind the poor semen motility without any clear indication of markers to watch.

There is no clear preventive measure for semen quality control. So you need to monitor the production and process until insemination.
